When I decided to lead a B-Group, it was my way of giving God my full "yes." The idea of leading a service-based group was something God placed in my heart, but I initially wrote it off as just another one of my random thoughts. It wasn't until a friend, who rarely calls, reached out to me for an hour-long conversation about volunteerism and leadership. He emphasized the importance of not waiting for others to create a platform for service when I could "stand in the gap" myself.
Then, during the "House Rules" series, PM’s sermon on serving others convicted me. That's when I finally filled out the B-Group Host application. I was filled with anxiety and self-doubt. I didn't feel qualified to lead a B-group, I had no idea what we would do, and I worried no one would even want to join. I was putting unnecessary pressure on myself by trying to create a version of "perfect" that God never required.

I eventually realized that my focus on perfection was distracting me from what truly mattered: creating a safe space for believers to grow closer to Him and feel a sense of belonging at BP. Over the course of the semester, our B-Group had an incredible impact:
-
We supported over 30 mothers recovering from addiction, fostering an environment where they could bond with their children at Santa Maria Hostel.
-
We helped combat food insecurity by packaging over 18,500 meals at the Houston Food Bank.
-
We stewarded the earth God gave us by removing invasive plants from Buffalo Bayou Park through the Buffalo Bayou Partnership.
-
And tomorrow, we will support the Birthday Bash Box by lessening the impact of poverty by giving elementary-aged children exciting educational experiences during their birthday celebrations. (Fun Fact: I found out this week that one of their board members is a member of BP)
I'm so glad I stepped out in faith and pushed past the discomfort. God truly equipped me with everything I needed. To anyone who feels a similar call to serve, I encourage you to push past the fear of leading. You’ll find that the blessings on the other side are worth it. The good we were able to do through this group was all ordained, and I'm grateful I got to be a part of it. Also shoutout to my hub leader, Seth, for being present! Even when I got overwhelmed, I knew I didn’t have to figure it out by myself because he always checked-in.
